Brown and Caldwell worked with the City of San Diego on a challenging large-diameter force main inspection and condition assessment project. The Brown and Caldwell team inspected the interior of more than 9,300 feet of 30-inch diameter cement mortar and poly lined ductile iron pipe to identify operational issues and determine structural integrity and hydraulic characteristics – critical considerations before proceeding with a pump station upgrade. Brown and Caldwell proactively addressed field work concerns including protecting a highly sensitive environmental preserve and working around a busy commuter train station – giving the city important information to make decisions about design and optimum operation of the pump station to ensure reliability under peak flow conditions.
