The largest of four City of Atlanta wastewater treatment facilities, with an average daily flow of 122 MGD, and peak flows frequently exceeding 320 MGD, the RM Clayton Water Reclamation Center simply can’t afford to shut down. Early collaboration between Brown and Caldwell and the owner resulted in selecting an alternative solution to the owner-prescribed technology and will improve plant reliability and operational simplicity. Upgrades to the headworks facility, which collects and treats flow from an aging, combined sewer system that routinely contains large quantities of grit, were completed all while keeping the plant in operation.
