I had to carry water for my family.” That’s how Dr. Farokh Kakar, a BC environmental engineer based in Vancouver, spent her teen years in a war-torn Mideast. It’s why she works to advance lasting solutions to help communities struggling with water.

“I realized I wanted to pursue a career in water so I can help.”

Dr. Kakar more than helps, she drives lasting, positive change by working collaboratively with clients to solve challenges, leading the conversation about water scarcity and access at the global scale, and managing innovative research projects with universities, utilities, and municipalities. At BC, she says she’s finally found a place where she belongs.

“It’s important to remember that you can always start from zero, so never give up.”
