One of the most extensive oceanographic studies ever made by the petroleum industry was finished this summer. The Bering Sea Comprehensive Oceanographic Measurement Program, called “BSCOMP” for short, was started in 1981 and cost $7.5 million. The most up-to-date systems were used to record data on waves, winds, sea and air temperatures, barometric pressures, and sea-bottom currents and pressures.
