This paper presents the results of a nitrification alternatives study that was performed at the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility CVWRF). The CVWRF serves a population in of 400,000 in the southern Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The facility utilizes the trickling filter/solids contact (TF/SC) process, and since startup in 1988, has provided an average final effluent quality of 8 mg/l TSS and 5 mg/l CBOD while treating average annual flows in excess of 60 mgd.
