Residential solid waste collected in the City of Sacramento, California, is currently disposed in a city-owned landfill. Remaining capacity in the landfill will be exhausted in 1982. In accordance with the state-approved Sacramento County Solid Waste Management Plan, the city plans to construct a 600-ton per day capacity solid waste transfer station to replace the landfill. Plans call for city waste then to be transported to the Sacramento County disposal site, which has a projected life of at least 20 years.
