Papers and Reports

Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) problems place an additional burden on collection systems, wastewater treatment facilities and can be very costly for communities. Locating the areas of I/I is the first step to address and solve these issues. However, collecting the data might be labor intensive, time-consuming and costly. On the other hand, with the continued and progressive increase in asset management, capacity studies and evaluations, there is growing need acquiring functional pump station data. The readily-available pump station runtime data can be effectively used to prioritize pump station service areas for field evaluations and to recommend evaluation methods. The result of our tool can be used for planning purposes to focus on sewer evaluations, sewer renewal and replacement projects. The tool can also identify pump station gravity service areas that do not exhibit I/I and therefore can be eliminated from expensive field evaluations.
