A primary goal of all water suppliers is enhancing their water treatment plant’s ability to prevent microbial contaminants passing into the treated water, to meet drinking water regulations, and to produce high quality treated water consistently and reliably. This paper reports on a widely used approach to improving water supplier performance. In 1988 the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) published the handbook, Optimizing Water Treatment Plant Performance Using the Composite Correction Program (CCP); USEPA updated it in 1998. The CCP program has been an effective method of optimizing surface water treatment plant performance to achieve the turbidity goal for the surface water filtration treatment plants. The CCP is a two-part process consisting of an evaluation phase called a Comprehensive Performance Evaluation (CPE) and a correction phase called Comprehensive Technical Assistance (CTA).
