The application of condensate polishing systems to remove suspended and dissolved solids has become a necessity for most central power stations, including nuclear, once-through and those with drum type steam generators.1 By reducing blowdown, promoting faster startups and decreasing boiler chemical cleaning frequencies, condensate polishing systems improve overall plant efficiency and economy. Since the early sixties, high-pressure utility boiler plants have installed condensate polishing systems consisting of prefilters and deep bed demineralizers, deep bed demineralizers alone, or powdered resin filter/demineralizers.2
