One year ago during the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association’s 52nd Annual Conference in Seattle, the Municipal Water Protection Award was presented to the Durham Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant, owned and operated by the Unified Sewerage Agency of Washington County, was noted in the citation for the award as having worked long and hard at curbing its energy appetite. The latest in a series of major energy conservation efforts was described then as “just now under construction.” Today, one year later, the fine bubble aeration system and its automatic dissolved oxygen control system are online and saving dollars, lots of dollars.
