The integrated control system, a central component of the recently completed Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment Plant’s Phase 2 project, was engineered and implemented by Brown and Caldwell to provide value to the owner over the entire life-cycle of the project. The focus on value led to the development of advanced features that provided benefits during project delivery, facility operation, and diagnostic and maintenance phases. The team achieved success by leveraging the best technologies, using an organized approach to the development process, and fostering a sense of ownership for all participants. Integration of the control system with other business solutions, such as asset management, provided a unified interface in a common software environment. The project delivery phase benefitted from streamlined equipment testing, instrument validation, and process startup. Plant operations have been improved through better process analysis tools and workflow procedures. Maintenance practices are also improved through better diagnostics capabilities and work management.
