Partnerships for a resilient future in Los Angeles
Award-winning $1.5M PepsiCo program to replenish Southern California groundwater
Receiving the 2023 Industrial Reuse Champions Award at WateReuse Symposium, PepsiCo funded a $1.5M partnership with the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) to manage and protect local groundwater resources to four million residents. The funding is helping to pilot the first inland injection well system for aquifer recharge at the WRD’s Leo J. Vander Lans Advanced Water Treatment Facility in Long Beach, California. PepsiCo’s funding will help replenish the aquifers with local water, bringing a first of its kind water security and drought resiliency solution to the region.
Potable Reuse Without Reverse Osmosis
A fraction of the cost and carbon footprint of full advanced treatment.
Non-RO provides water that is equally protective of public health and can recover up to 10% more water than conventional treatment methods. And, in inland communities, this innovative non-RO approach opens the possibility of a new potable water source where brine concentrate disposal is a limiting factor to employing RO.
