Tribal Nations STEM Scholarship

Brown and Caldwell is deeply committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the water industry and our workplace. The Tribal Nations STEM Scholarship supports and encourages U.S. Native American students who are passionate about furthering their STEM knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in the environmental profession.

Applications for 2024 are closed and will reopen in 2025. This year’s applicants will be notified of their status by the end of May.

 

The scholarship provides

  • $1,000 for up to four (4) years of schooling (for a total of $4,000).
  • The scholarship will be distributed annually as long as the eligibility criteria continues to be met.

Criteria

Candidates for the Brown and Caldwell Tribal Nations STEM Scholarship Program must be:

  • An enrolled member of a federally or state-recognized Tribe.
  • A United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • A full-time student enrolled at an accredited two-year junior or four-year undergraduate college, or a senior in high school with a letter of acceptance from the college or university to be attended.
  • Have or intend to declare a major in civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering or one of the environmental sciences (e.g. geology, hydrogeology, ecology).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent on a 5.0 scale).
  • Applicants must not have been previously awarded a BC scholarship.
  • Applicants cannot apply for both the Navajo Nation Scholarship and the Tribal Nations STEM Scholarship, applicants will only be considered for one.

Required Documents

All candidates must submit with a completed application:

  • An essay of 250 words minimum, “A foot in both worlds and how I can bridge them with engineering.”
  • Two written recommendations, with at least one from a high school or university official (e.g. advisor, professor).
  • An official transcript of your academic record.
  • A resume (including previous work experience)
  • Proof of Tribal enrollment such as a Certificate Degree of Indian Blood copy, Tribal membership card, OR a letter of enrollment/descendancy from the Tribal enrollment office.
  • Evidence of a declared major.

Scholarship funds may only be used for university/college billed expenses such as tuition.
