The 2012 Louisiana Coastal Master Plan (LaCMP) is a first-of-its-kind statewide coastal resilience plan, integrating a systems- and science-based approach. Serving as a template for other state plans, the LaCMP evaluates the needs of the entire coast; and is focused on providing a thriving, resilient landscape for the people and natural communities who live, work, and play along Louisiana’s coastline.
The LaCMP involved collaboration with federal, state, and local stakeholders, and includes broad community engagement. Working closely with the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, BC provided overall program management and technical plan support to present and prioritize a coast-wide array of structural, nonstructural, and nature-based projects selected through a quantitative, scientific, systems-based analysis. Approximately 400 projects were evaluated using a suite of predictive models that estimated the effects of these projects and how they contribute to achieving LaCMP’s objectives. The LaCMP provides a roadmap for informed decision-making to guide infrastructure investments that provide the most benefit and build resilience for years to come.
