Q&A with Mark Pestrella of LA County Public Works

LA County Public Works director shares vision of integrated infrastructure

Los Angeles County Public Works is the largest public works agency in the United States. It provides public infrastructure and municipal services to protect and enrich the daily lives of over 10 million LA County residents.

Brown and Caldwell’s Dan Bunce and Lisa Skutecki sit down with Mark Pestrella, director of LA County Public Works, to get an inside view of his vision of integrated infrastructure throughout the region. About the experts

Dan Bunce is BC’s Cal-Desert senior vice president. Dan has more than 24 years of experience expertly leading projects in water and wastewater infrastructure planning, design, operations and maintenance (O&M), and management improvement practices.

Lisa Skutecki is a BC managing engineer with more than 20 years of experience. Lisa specializes in managing surface and groundwater quality; water resources, including green infrastructure and stormwater capture; and environmental compliance projects. In recent years, her professional focus encompasses stormwater pollution control, watershed management, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting for a variety of municipal and private clients.

Mark Pestrella

Mark Pestrella is the director of Los Angeles County Public Works. In this capacity, he also serves as the county engineer, the county road commissioner, and the chief engineer of the LA County Flood Control District. With an annual budget of more than $2.5 billion and a workforce of 4,000 employees, LA County Public Works is the largest municipal public works agency in the United States, providing vital public infrastructure and civic services to more than 10 million people across a 4,000-square-mile service area.
