Brown and Caldwell has used the business case evaluation (BCE) to assist clients in making repeatable and defensible decisions for operations and maintenance, repair and refurbishment, capital, and policy decisions. Often times the BCE is on a case-by-case basis; however, to truly be effective, the BCE process must be integrated into standard business practice. This paper describes the BCE process and shows how the use of tools such as business proces modeling and process automation can be used to integrate the BCE process into standard practice for successfully making capital, operations, maintenance, and refurbishment decisions.
