King County Wastewater Treatment Division (King County, formerly Metro) is considering implementing thermophilic anaerobic digestion at the West Point Treatment Plant (WPTP) as a means to enhance the solids digestion process. Enhancement of digestion process means improving reduction of volatile solids and/or reducing the hydraulic residence time (HRT) in the digesters. A reduction in HRT would mean a likely reduction in the number of existing digester tanks. A potential and desirable concurrent benefit of digester enhancements is the production of a Class A quality biosolid product from WPTP.
