Papers and Reports

This technical paper is based on a project funded by the Water Environmental Research Foundation and several municipal wastewater agencies. The title of the project is: “Class A Biosolids Through Storage and Air Drying.” The work is ongoing as this technical paper is written. The work will provide guidance to municipal agencies seeking to define low-technology, low-cost Class A processes. This paper provides a review of prior work on process management and process controls which are likely to be required for storage and air drying processes to meet Class A requirements. Class A refers to the high level of pathogen control (often referred to as pathogen-free) required for biosolids where direct public contact with the material is likely. Class A requirements are defined within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations in 40 CFR Part 503.
