Promulgated in 1990, the Taiwan ambient air quality standards are similar to the U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). Since the, Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency has aggressively enforced the control of air pollutant emissions. The newly issued volatile organic compounds (VOCs) control guidelines, and the beginning of an air pollution tax on gasoline, are enforcement examples. This review of VOCs and nitrogen oxides (NOs) emissions and control technologies is intended to provide Taiwan with the benefit of United Stated (U.S.) experience in this area and to assist Taiwan in achieving its air quality standard for ozone.
