The American Society of Civil Engineers Clarifier Research Technical Committee (CRTC) has developed a protocol for evaluating activated sludge secondary clarifier performance. The protocol was assessed in a field study during which the performance of four secondary clarifiers at three large activated sludge facilities was evaluated. An overview of the results from this field study is presented and discussed with an emphasis on the design and operational aspects of the evaluated clarifiers that significantly affect performance.
