Recent attention has focused on a more quantitative approach to risks associated with the accidental release of hazardous materials. A quantitative approach is useful both in determining the impact on public health as well as its value in cost/benefit analyses to support expenditure decisions for design or operational applications. This paper presents our approach to quantitative risk assessment for hazardous material releases associated with design alternatives in a wastewater treatment facility.
