Until now, very little hard data have been available on the amount of water saved by water-conserving fixtures. Claims that manufacturers, water utilities, and others have made about the benefits of using low-flow fixtures are largely based upon estimates. The estimates have been based upon idealized conditions nd manufacturer’s claims. Recognizing this, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has funded a number of demonstration projects designed to document actual water savings. Currently, seven major demonstration projects are under way. Progress on four of the projects is described in this report.
