WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Brown and Caldwell, a leading environmental engineering and construction firm, announced today that Senior Vice President Steve Gates has been elected 2018 President of the Water Design-Build Council (WDBC) Board.
“It is a tremendous honor for me to assume board leadership for the coming year and to collaborate with our membership to advance the important work of the Council,” Gates said. “The Council continues to build on many years of success fulfilling its mission to advance design-build delivery methods to transform the water industry.”
Gates, who is responsible for design-build project development for Brown and Caldwell, is a 39-year industry veteran in program, design and construction management roles.
A nationally recognized expert in integrated project delivery, he has successfully managed the delivery of environmental facilities valued at more than $4 billion for major public utilities and Fortune 1000 clients, using program management, partnering and design-build contracting as an engineer, contractor and adviser.
As WDBC’s First Vice President and Treasurer, Gates chaired the Council’s Research Committee, which this year released the 2017 State of the Demand for Design-Build Delivery in the Water/Wastewater Sector, a first-of-its-kind study that confirms how the use of collaborative project delivery in the water industry is growing at a steadily increasing pace.
“With Congress poised to fund infrastructure design and construction in a dramatic way, we are optimistic about the prospects for continued growth in the use of design-build project delivery to meet owners’ capital project delivery objectives for cost, quality, risk management, innovation and speed. As president, I am excited to do my part to advance the Council’s legacy as a sustainable, high-performing organization — continuing at the forefront of thought leadership for collaborative project delivery in the water industry, remaining the leader in independent and objective research, and advancing to become the authoritative source for education in our specialty.”
