WALNUT CREEK, Calif., January 28, 2016 —Brown and Caldwell, a leading environmental engineering and construction firm, today announced that Chief Scientist Tamara Sorell has been named Co-Chair of the Steering Committee of the Gobal Sediment Advisory Group (SEDAG) for the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).

Sorell, Brown and Caldwell’s toxicology and risk assessment practice leader, brings nearly 30 years of human health and ecological risk assessment experience to her new leadership role. A nationally recognized sediments expert, Sorell is passionate about advancing the development of science-based sediment remediation and has helped scores of clients implement cutting-edge sediment solutions that are more cost-effective and strategic than large-scale removals.

“SETAC influences rapidly changing sediment regulations, and there is a lot of room for improvement in the area of developing and gaining approval for realistic sediment clean-up goals,” said Sorell. “I want to contribute to advancement in this field and mentor the next generation of professionals by involving them in this important organization.”

Sorell has actively participated in SETAC for more than 22 years, serving as Chapter President, Session Chair, and Ecological Risk Assessment Short Course Instructor. As the Chair of SEDAG, she recently proposed and received approval to start a Sediment Risk Management working group that will focus on remedial solutions and science-based decision making for sediment management.
