Scale-up Programs in Aerated Lagoon Process Design

Bench-scale testing of completely mixed aerated lagoon systems has been shown to simulate full-scale systems poorly in both municipal and industrial applications. Where there is an absence of kinetic information for process design, only large-scale demonstration units should be used in order to minimize wall effects. The demonstration unit should closely simulate the shearing intensity (and energy distribution) of the prototype's aeration system. Of course, prototype data should be used wherever possible.
