Major Secondary Treatment Plant Expansion at OCSD
Design of the trickling filter/solids contact (TF/SC) system for the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) incorporated a TF media solution that significantly reduced equipment requirements, saving $2 million in construction costs and $35,000 in annual power savings. Implementing the TF/SC process also reduced the capital costs by $12 million when compared to the conventional TF process originally planned. The expansion is part of an overall 18-year $2.5 billion wastewater program to be completed by 2020. Brown and Caldwell provided study, design, construction support and start-up services.
