Quick Approval for Leachate Treatment Plant Expansion
Brown and Caldwell conducted a Feasibility Study to evaluate alternatives for upgrading the existing leachate treatment system at a landfill/resource recovery facility from 100,000 gallons per day (gpd) to 400,000 gpd capacity. The proposed plant expansion would have to meet discharge requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and the Delaware River Basin Commission. The design incorporated existing infrastructure and tanks to minimize project costs and sustainability concepts with the goal of obtaining LEED certification. Negotiating variances for several parameters, including TDS, ultimately resulted in additional cost savings and approval by regulators in less than half the normal approval time.
