Design-Build Implementation Saves $3.6 million

With the help of Brown and Caldwell, the Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati completed its first design-build project. The $10 million Oakley Station Separation Sewer Project eliminates one CSO and significantly reduces another.

MSDGC saved more than $3.6 million in overall project costs using design-build for the new one-half-mile, 60-inch to 72-inch diameter tunneled storm sewer and near surface sewers. And, the project met the aggressive 21-month schedule, including procurement, design, construction, and commissioning.

BC oversaw all elements of the design-build contract, including procurement assistance through development of the design-build RFQ and RFP, technical assistance during contractor selection and negotiation, design oversight, and contractor oversight during construction.
