BC earns Gold Shovel Standard Certification for subsurface safety
When it comes to making health and safety a top priority, BC has the Midas touch. The firm capped a successful summer by achieving an impressive safety status: Gold Shovel Standard Certification.

The certification is a third-party evaluation that affirms BC’s safety policies and procedures are specifically designed for damage prevention – an important industry-driven designation. Unique to this program is its focus on buried infrastructure.

"We take every measure possible to protect the health and safety of our workers, along with the residents of the communities we work in,” said Kevin Dyson (Philadelphia), BC’s Integrated Project Delivery Remediation Services Group leader. "Being awarded this certification proves our core values regarding Health and Safety are in alignment with our clients’.”

Gold Shovel Standard, a nonprofit organization, aims to create a safer North America through training, education and standardizing damage prevention metrics. Among its offerings is a first-of-its-kind excavation safety program designed to reduce dig-ins (when gas or power lines are accidentally struck) and protect underground gas and electric systems.

Among several goals of the Gold Shovel organization is to, by the end of 2025, help bring about a 50 percent reduction over 2015 levels in the frequency of damages on professional excavation sites in North America.

BC joins some of the largest pipeline operators, gas and electric utilities, and telecom companies with this certification, which continues the firm’s long track record of recognized dedication to health and safety. In 2016, the National Safety Council recognized BC with their Safety Leadership and Occupational Excellence awards.
